Chiang Mai · Self-Assessment

"I had been putting off thinking about this for years — not because I didn't care, but because I genuinely didn't know where to begin. The worksheet gave me a clear first step. It wasn't overwhelming. I spent about three evenings on it and ended up with a much better sense of which questions I needed to find answers to."

Chiang Mai · Information Library

"The library is genuinely well written. I've tried reading the SSO documentation directly and it can be heavy going. Here it's the same information but in language that makes sense to me. My only note is that I wish there were more articles on the intersection of private savings and the Social Security Fund — though I understand they add material over time."

Lampang · Community Circle

"I joined the Circle mainly because I felt a bit alone in this — friends my age weren't talking about retirement planning at all, or they changed the subject. The group was warm without being forced. The facilitator has a real skill for keeping things moving without steering people toward particular answers. I come away from each session with something to think about."

Chiang Mai · Library + Circle

"I used both the library and the Community Circle, and they work well together. I'd read something in the library and then bring questions — general ones, not personal ones — to the Circle session. The two resources complement each other more than I expected."

Chiang Mai · Self-Assessment

"Straightforward and honest. The worksheet doesn't pretend to have all the answers and is clear that it's a starting point, not a solution. I appreciated that — I've had experiences with other resources that were really just advertisements for financial products in disguise. This is not that."

Chiang Rai · Information Library

"I'm not based in Chiang Mai so the in-person sessions weren't an option for me, but the library works entirely online. Good articles, clear writing, helpful glossary. I've spent quite a few hours in there and each time I come back I find something useful I hadn't read before."

Three paths through the resources

These case studies are based on real member experiences, with identifying details changed for privacy.

Challenge

Starting from scratch at 54

A secondary school teacher approaching 55 had a basic understanding that the Social Security Fund existed but had never looked into how her contributions translated into what she might receive later. She found government documentation difficult to navigate and wasn't sure where to start.

What She Used

Self-Assessment, then Library

She started with the Self-Assessment, which helped her identify that her main unknowns were around contribution history and payout structures. She then joined the Information Library to read the relevant topic sections. The articles on SSO benefits were especially useful for her situation.

What Changed

Clarity on the right questions

After three months, she reported feeling significantly more informed about what she needed to verify with her employer and the SSO directly. She had a list of specific questions to bring to a qualified financial professional rather than a vague feeling of not knowing enough.

"I finally know what I don't know. That's more useful than it sounds."

Challenge

Feeling isolated in the conversation

A recently retired business owner in his early 60s found that friends either weren't interested in discussing retirement or were making quite different decisions. He wanted to hear how others in broadly similar situations were approaching things — not advice, just shared perspective.

What He Used

Community Circle

He joined the Community Circle and attended six sessions over four months. The group of 9 participants included several others who had also recently left work. He found the conversation format more valuable than he expected, particularly the facilitated discussions on navigating identity shifts in retirement.

What Changed

A community around shared questions

He continued informally meeting with two other Circle members after the programme ended. He also enrolled in the Information Library to follow up on specific topics raised in sessions.

"Nobody tells you how much of retirement planning is actually about the non-financial parts. The Circle helped me think those through."
